Learn ChessFrontier
FAQ
What is ChessFrontier?
ChessFrontier is a hidden-information chess variant you can play in your browser with 2D or 3D boards.
How is this different from standard chess?
Every non-king piece starts with a hidden identity. Its first move reveals it to both players.
Capture a hidden piece and only you learn its identity. Use that private knowledge to plan your next move.
Can I play without an account?
Play the computer as a guest. Sign in for online matches and your player dashboard.
Do I need to download an app?
No download is required. Computer practice is available as a guest; sign in to play online.
What is hidden?
Non-king piece identities are hidden at the start. A piece reveals itself to both players when it first moves. See Game Rules for details.
Will I wait for a person?
Matchmaking first looks for a human. If nobody is available, a marked Bot joins automatically so you can play. There is no human-only waiting mode.
Can I use an engine against a Bot?
Not in an automatically matched rated game. Practice games against the computer are different. Read the full Fair Play rules.
How do I recover my account or report a bug?
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page for password accounts. Your Profile lets you update your name, avatar, and password; email stays fixed. Use Player feedback to report a bug or suggest an idea.
